Preparing for the mud
The ocean floor is extremely muddy and slippery. Bring sturdy, washable footwear or rubber boots. You should also pack a change of shoes and pants to keep your car clean later.
Weather on the coast changes rapidly. Dress in layers to handle bay winds. Bring sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat, as there is little shade on the exposed mudflats.

Planning questions
What should I wear to walk on the ocean floor?
Wear sturdy, washable footwear or rubber boots. Bring layers, as coastal winds change rapidly.
How much time do you need at Hopewell Rocks?
Plan for at least three to four hours. If you want to see both high and low tide, you will need to stay for the full six-hour cycle or return the next day.
Is Hopewell Rocks wheelchair accessible?
The Interpretive Centre and viewing platforms are accessible. The North Beach Ramp offers a gentle incline, but the ocean floor mud is generally too challenging for wheels.
