Bringing children to the Bay of Fundy requires a bit of planning. You need to prepare for muddy conditions, steep stairs, and changing tides. This guide covers ticket costs, safety rules, and the best ways to navigate the park with your family.

Is Hopewell Rocks suitable for children?

Yes, the park is highly suitable for children of all ages.

Kids enjoy walking on the ocean floor at low tide. The Interpretive Centre offers multimedia exhibits that explain the tidal resonance and geology. The park infrastructure includes viewing platforms and restaurants that make family visits convenient.

How much is a family ticket to Hopewell Rocks?

A family pass costs $45.37 CAD plus 15% tax.

This pass covers two adults and their children aged 18 and under. If you buy individual tickets, children aged 5 to 18 cost $10.37 CAD. Children 4 and under enter for free. All tickets are valid for two consecutive days. This allows your family to see both high and low tides without paying twice.

How do kids get down to the ocean floor?

Families can use the stairs, a gently sloped ramp, or an on-site shuttle.

The Main Deck features a metal staircase with 99 steps down to the mud. You must climb 101 steps to get back up. If you want to skip the upper walking trails, a shuttle connects the Interpretive Centre to the main access point. The shuttle costs a nominal fee of $1.74 CAD per person. Alternatively, the North Beach Ramp offers a gentle incline with benches.

What should kids wear in the mud?

Dress children in sturdy, washable footwear or rubber boots.

The ocean floor at low tide is extremely muddy and slippery. Coastal weather changes rapidly, so pack layers of clothing. Bring a small towel or wet wipes to clean muddy legs and hands after your walk. You should also pack a complete change of shoes, socks, and pants. This ensures your car stays clean on the ride home.

How do I keep my kids safe at the park?

Adhere to all safety instructions and never walk on the ocean floor if the tide is rising.

The Bay of Fundy tide rises up to 16 meters (53 feet). You must stick to designated trails and access ramps to avoid accidents. Keep children close and ensure they do not climb the fragile sandstone sea stacks. Always carry a downloaded copy of the official park tide tables to monitor the water levels.

Are strollers allowed on the ocean floor?

Strollers can reach the access points but cannot navigate the thick mud.

The North Beach Ramp is wheelchair accessible, meaning strollers can easily roll down to the edge. However, the actual ocean floor mud is generally too challenging to navigate on wheels. Plan to carry infants or use a wearable baby carrier while exploring the sea stacks.
